Going Coastal – Finished!

Before I show the finished quilt, here is one of the final obstacles I faced in getting this quilt done.  This was preceded by helpering with the layout and piecing.  Nina and Fred both have nice coloring that sets off the blues and greens nicely, I think.

This quilt has proudly been helpered by all cats in our house, including Zoom and Zapper, since I started it just before Zoom’s diagnosis.

Okay, enough FEELS for now.  I got the final stitches put on last night and in the wash.  A quick dry this morning and voila!

Going Coastal - Finished!Going Coastal FMQ DetailI did an all over meander with some extra special designs in the blocks that had a plain center. You can click through to Flickr to see a larger version, but there’s a little heart in the left blocks, and a leaf outline in the right block.  I also included fish, flowers, and some other designs.

Going Coastal Back

I’m also loving the stripe of piecing in the back, which is made out of leftover 6″ bits from the blocks.  That big piece is the bit I picked up at in the sale room at Tiny Stitches, and the other side is the same fabric as the front border.

Once I show this off in a couple weeks at various guild meetings and Saturday Sampler pick-up, I’ll get it shipped up to my New Niece along with my other niece’s birthday present.

  1. Wonderful, soothing quilt. You have a lucky niece!

BTW I have always thought that the audio on your podcasts is low, and I’ve been listening for at least a year now. It never occurred to me today anything because it seemed to me that you have a fairly soft voice. As long as I don’t listen in the car with the windows open and keep you near my ear when using my sewing machine, it’s all good!

  2. I love the Going costal quilt. The blues are definitely not a color I have in my home but I have always loved those cool colors. With my red hair, it doesn’t “match” me but I love it! The quilting really adds a lot to this one and the back is super yummy!

  3. It’s beautiful, I just got to look at the pictures now! I love the batiks you chose both for the borders and the backing. Any trouble with colors in the wash?
