Rainbow Baby – Finished!

I am happy to say that I finished the Rainbow Baby quilt the other day, and my neighbors brought their baby girl home yesterday. Not too shabby!

Rainbow BabyRainbow Baby - Close-upThe finished quilt measures 50×50″, and is made up of 16 patch blocks like this one. The 16 patches are made up of 3″ finished squares and some of my leader/ ender 4-patches for a little more interest.

I quilted it using an overall meander with some special hearts in the white block in each of the 16 patches to give it a little flair.  I think pieces of flair are the way to go when using the meander, especially since it feels like I use it for everything. I really need to get back to my Craftsy class on FMQ to mix it up a bit.

Rainbow Baby - BabyThe back of the quilt makes use of a piece of rainbow fabric gifted to me from my daughter’s teacher and some more of the white fabric from the front (the Eric Carle white on white “Brown Bear” print, which is fun for baby quilts).

  1. So adorble! Great idea of the different color squres! Hope your neighbors will love it! I see I’m gonna have to move to your neighborhood :)))

  2. So very cute! I love the rainbow scrap patches. I’m just learning to fmq, so I’m looking forward to when I can meander well.

  3. I really like the way this came out. I love the variation on the 16 patch I have been doing and may do something like it. I think the variation in prints is key. The white square is great, too. I might try this for my next donation quilt, though I have some neutrals I’d like to use up.

  4. Great quilt and I love how you threw in some 4 patch leaders/enders with the 16 patch. You’ve given me a great idea for a memory quilt I’m making for a client who just lost her Golden boy…I’ll let you know how it turns out 🙂 Thinking of a 5 inch center featuring a picture of him surrounded by a ring of charm squares or something like that. Multiple pics/blocks separated by white space.

  5. Thanks again for the podcast, I was writing down your directions too! And yes I posted again the next day because I didn’t think it posted.
