Sunday Stash - Neener Nina

A fairly productive week all around; the kitchen got painted, two quilts for charity got both tops and backs pieced. One is sandwiched, and once I get more batting I can sandwich the second one. I also had my class on feather quilting with Sharon Schamber (eee!), so I’m looking forward to practice some of that on one of the charity quilts.

Nina and the Fat QuartersI learned last week that the East Cobb Quilters Guild is doing a block drive for QoV, so I made a couple string blocks to contribute and have pieces cut for four pieced blocks to mail in.

Meanwhile, Nina has been expressing herself on my fat quarters.

  • Used this Week: 3 yards
    • 2 yd for accessory tote
    • 0.5 yd for QoV string blocks
    • 0.5 yd for practice FMQ sandwich
  • Used year to Date: 215 yards
  • Added this Week: 0.5 yards
    • 0.5 yd of black Kona for future class with Esterita Austin
  • Net Used for 2014: 141.25 yards
  • YTD Used for Charity: 72.5 yards (34% of total used)

  1. Great podcast as always. You kept me company on my drive home from work tonight. I found myself yelling at your guild folks while driving. Who in tarnations do they think they are to call you to task for your proliferation, your productiveness and your bounty of quilty creations? I think it is fantastic that you are able to share with us some of your challenges with idleness, your need for a constant creative outlet and your struggles with depression. But it angers me that people make you feel guilty about your quilting to the point that you feel compelled to give excuses. You create because that’s what you do. You have been gifted with the ability (talent, interest, resources and family support) to be able to create lots and that’s all that needs to be said. And on the issue of donations, you have a g icing heart and that’s awesome. Again, that members of your guild want to make an issue of it is a reflection of them more than of you.

Bananas - I use my over-ripe bananas as egg substitute in cookies. It makes the cookies stay soft longer (i like soft cookies) and I don’t eat eggs. 1 medium banana = 1 egg. There is a bit of a banana taste so it won’t work for savory stuff but for sweet stuff, I like it a lot.

On the Fred to the Vet in a box - I keep thinking Fred is this BIG dog. So when you talk about putting him in a cat carrier, you can imagine my visions of furry sardine-looking Fred parts stuffed in a crate. I must try to adjust my mental image to be that of a medium size dog who fits in a cat carrier. I shall work on that.

You paint too!?!? Your Nina portrait is awesome. I bet fabric painting could be in our future. Who knew.

Enjoy your time with the Parents. If they want to share some silly stories about the young Pam, that could be humorous. Please vet them so as to avoid mortal embarrassment which is what you would get were you to ask the same question of my own parents.

  2. Pam,
Love your podcasts! Great quilt for Quilts of Valor. My husband is an injured vet, so I am always thankful for the generosity of other quilters. You are appreciated! And I love the fact you get more quilting done than many others, I think it inspires us! I am not in the round robin, but if I was, I wouldn’t need anything fancy-wancy, just give me the fabric, the beginning piece and instructions!!
