Sunday Stash - Quiltish

The big finish this week is the blue and tan quilt for Quilts of Valor, along with the presentation bag for it. I also started on the next round for the Twilters Round Robin and made my class sample for the totebag class I was teaching. The class ended up getting cancelled due to lack of sign-ups, but we’re going to try rescheduling it for the fall.

I also picked up my blocks for this month for Tiny Stitches.  The Mum Medallion block had some poor lighting due to the sun diving behind a cloud like it had all been all weekend, on and off.  The Bonnie & Camille blocks will be set on point, so I tried photographing it that way for interest.

  1. Agreeing with AJ. That Mum Medallion block is really intriguing. Was it hard to construct? And did they give it a name? Love the fabrics you’ve used too.

  2. The Mum medallion does look really nice! I like the say it forms a nice star from the dark brown fabrics. Is that an original design, or an existing block? And your Bonnie and Camille star is gorgeous! I love the colors together! It looks really nice on point!

  3. I just listened to your podcast. I like some specialty rulers but don’t see the need to buy every one of them out there. I like Eleanor Burn’s Quilt in a Day Triangle Square Up Ruler and her Flying Geese Ruler. I use those all the time. I’m not a big fan of tri-recs ruler and have thought of giving it away since I recently bought Deb Tucker’s V-block ruler. It gives me a lot more accuracy than the tri-recs. I think Deb Tucker’s rulers are well made and accurate but pricey. They are a quilting luxury to me.

I also like my 9 1/2 inch square, 12 1/2 inch square and 16 1/2 inch square. I don’t use them all the time, but like having them when I need them.

A friend of mine gave me her hex-n-more ruler because she didn’t like it. I am curious to try it out and see what I think of it.

I feel the same way you do about white baby quilts. In fact, I almost always use scraps for baby quilts. Why waste money on fabric that you know will be exposed to all kinds of messy stains? My view is probably clouded by my 3 boys who all spit up until they started walking.
