WIP Wednesday: The Elusive Golden Snitch

I’ve been working through some extra blocks for my Harry Potter bookshelf quilt. I saw another top that had a Nimbus 2000 broom leaning against the bookcase, and found the pattern for it on the Fandom in Stitches.  Here is Nina considering a career in quidditch after seeing my finished block.

Nina is contemplating a career in Quidditch.

I’m also making the Sword of Gryffindor, but it’s 58″ wide and the bookshelf (as finished in 2011) is only 52″ wide, so not sure it can go on top on it as I originally intended.  Per Charlotte’s suggestion, it might end up as a MEGA LABEL on the back. I think Jennifer is presenting an alternate bookshelf layout in her final version in a couple weeks, so it might be able to go on top anyway (or I need to add 6″ of width to every shelf on the quilt so it’ll fit!).

  1. Pam, I need advice. I am a very new quilter, but I am struggling. I can’t really take a class right now, so I was wondering if you had any suggestions on basic skill building. I have been sewing for a long time 30 years or so, but I am having basic problems, like sewing an consistent 1/4″ seam, and stitching in the ditch, etc. I was thinking about maybe working on very small quilts first, like baby quilts. I am just wondering if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

  2. Nice that you are adding extra blocks to make the quilt your own - aside from the fabric, of course.

I also see on your sidebar that you are stitching down applique’ on your Dresden Garden. Yay for you!
