WIP Wednesday - Pottering Along

Note: I wrote this on Wednesday, and yet it did not post. Why, interwebs, why?

This week has been flush with free motion quilting as I finally got to work on quilting the Harry Potter bookshelf quilt.  Since I’m matching thread colors to the fabric color, there are a ton of thread changes and thread, honestly, so it’s slow going to bury the threads as I go.

So far I’ve done orange, red, yellow, blue, gray, and brown.  I’m in the middle of gold, and still have green, purple, lavender, black and cream to go. And then all the background around the bookcase (which is lime greenish).  My goal is to get three colors or more done per day so I don’t get crazy neck from bending over so much. It also helps break up the monotony of quilting book spines over and over and trying to come up with new designs

Sometimes there’s fun bits, like monogrammed cauldrons.

In between quilting, I’m working through a pile of scraps to be trimmed down as my scrap basket overfloweth.

As I work through it to trim down sizes, I’ve decided to do a Scrappy Trip Around the World quilt, so some of these are getting cut into 16 x 2 1/2″ strips so I can piece those blocks as leaders and enders when I feel I need something different to work on.

  1. Do you have any regrets about committing to the Harry Potter quilt? And/or, if you had to do it over again, would you?

  2. Hi Pam, I spent my New Year’s Day sick, sewing my Allietare and listening to a whole bunch of your podcasts. Thanks for entertaining me and keeping me moving along. Hoping to feel better by Sunday so I can check out the Modern Quilt guild at Tiny Stitches. Wish I had signed up for the Saturday sampler.

  3. I appreciate that you are taking the time to do amazing quilting on such an amazing quilt. Machine quilting is definitely MY jam and I love it when others feel the same way 🙂 Adding cute details and switching thread colors as needed are worth it for this quilt! If you lived closer - I’d gladly help you bury all those threads!!

  4. PS I don’t know if this helps - but I usually leave the tails on until the end and then bury them all in one fell swoop. It’s meditative for me that way and ironically I usually listen to quilting podcasts while I bury them 🙂
