Sunday Stash – Squat

Well, nothing finished to report for the last two weeks, although I expect a wild turn around in that regard this week! I did receive some fabric for my birthday in the week that I missed reporting, so I’m sticking it in here today.

    • Sad trombone!
  • Used Year to Date: 200.25 yards

  1. Nothing finished in Florida either. I am in a slump. Had a UFO almost done and realized there was a problem when piecing the rows together. Not impossible to fix just a screeching halt that killed my enthusiasm. I am off to make pillowcases to get my self motivated again 🙂

  2. Pam, I’m one of those people that Frances talks about on her podcast — long time listener and head-commenter, but rare actual commenter. But I have listened to every one of your episodes and look forward to them every week! Anyhooooo, here’s what actually got me to remember to come online and comment:

I’ve been wondering for a while and I don’t think you’ve ever really discussed it: How do you keep track of your yardage while you’re quilting? In other words, do you always measure each cut of fabric before you cut pieces from it for your quilt and after you’ve cut? Or do you just count up the pieces included in your quilt and reverse-engineer calculate the yardage that is included in the quilt? What about scrappy things? Or say, for example, the bookshelf quilt you did for Summer Reading QAL? That must have involved really small amounts of a lot of different fabrics that you probably didn’t purchase just for that project. And they were all odd different little sizes to make up the books. How do you calculate that to include in your stash report?

And do you ever do smaller little projects along the way — like zipper pouches, lunch sacks, coaster, placemats, etc. and do you count those in your stash report or only large items?

I’ve always wanted to do a stash report but never remember to think about it until the project is completely done and I have no idea how much fabric is in there. And if some fabric goes in the stash bin as a result of the project, does that count as used? I’d love to hear your way of thinking about it.

Take care and thanks for the podcast!
