Sunday Stash - Still At It

I stuck with it this week and finished up two quilts.  One had been quilted last week but needed hand finishing for the binding; once that got done, I moved onto finishing up the quilting and binding for the In My Neighborhood row-along I designed a row for over on The Stitch TV Show site. The instructions get posted this week, but there’s a sneak peak in the featured image above!

I need to make a photo day to just take pics of all these finished quilts before the flit off to their various destinations. Until then there are numbers!

  • Used this past week: 11 yards
    • 4.5 yd for the Neighborhood row quilt
    • 6.5 yd for the Sonic Goose Quilt
  • Total Used Year to Date: 280.25 yards
  • YTD Used for Charity: 84.75 yards (30% of total used)

I am slowly getting back on the stash wagon and making progress on some quilts   I finished quilting the one I was stuck on earlier this week, but it needs a hand finish on the binding so will get done later this coming week.

I also plowed through two donation quilts that got an easy all over pattern that didn’t require a lot of planning and agony to design, so those get chalked up in the done column, too!

It was also Saturday Sampler weekend so I picked up the three blocks for the current projects.  One of these programs are wrapping up next month, so time to get thinking about layout!

  • Used this past week: 8.75 yards
    • 4.5 yd for the schoolyard quilt
    • 4.25 yd for the Cheerful Scrap Quilt
  • Total Used Year to Date: 269.25 yards
  • YTD Used for Charity: 80.25 yards (30% of total used)

WIP Wednesday - Oh, Hello There

It’s at this point in my life I really need an narrator of sorts to do a voiceover like, “When last we saw Pam, she was stressed out.” Then pan video to me sitting in my living room still sort of stressed out. The good news is, however, the end is rather in sight (new job officially starts next Wednesday) and I just need to google some pictures of contrails to solve my latest quilting dilemma and then everything will be FINE. Yes. That’s what I’m telling myself.

It’ll be fine, right?

Of course it will. Never mind that my brain is already circling around what to make for Thanksgiving (in a month) and the time table to get everything in the oven in order to eat at noon, and whether the turkey I haven’t even bought yet will be defrosted in time. Really, it’ll be fine.

In the mean time, I had a quilting retreat last weekend and finished 3 1/2 quilt tops! Add that to three I already had done, and I have a bona fide pile-up. Oh boy.

So this post is a catch up for stash reporting and WIP-ing, so really I’ve got the de-stash yardage and some pillowcases

  • Used this past random amount of time: 17 yards
    • 15 yd destashed
    • 2 yd for 2 donation pillowcases
  • Total Used Year to Date: 260.5 yards
  • YTD Used for Charity: 71.5 yards (27% of total used)

WIP Wednesday - Early or It Doesn’t Count

I’m going ahead and posting WIP Wednesday so I don’t actually forget to do it for the frillionth week in a row!  And there’s a pitiful Sunday Stash report to boot, too, at the end.

I got three sets of blocks ready to go for three different quilt tops, so one day (hopefully soon) there will be finishes in the spreadsheet for those quilts. One of them was a pretty traditional shabby chic type charm pack that I mixed up with some more modern prints in similar colors for a big four patch quilt; the other two are leftovers from the skirt finishes of prior weeks.

I’m also in the middle of testing a new pattern and that will get finished up in the next month or so, too.

  • Used this past week: 1.75 yard
    • 0.25 yd for pincushion
    • 0.75 yd for Bingo FQs
    • 0.75 yd for block testing
  • Total Used Year to Date: 216.25 yards
  • Added this week: a couple FQ bundles, and some yardage for a quilt back
  • YTD Used for Charity: 61 yards (28% of total used)

Sunday Stash - No Regerts

A last minute finish just before I started typing means I got to add something else to the spreadsheet this week!  Not only did I finish two skirts for my daughter, I wrapped up my small pattern samples, both for the upcoming “No Regerts” pattern (very similar to the pattern published in Make Modern a few months ago).  Here’s a little close-up of the quilting on the wallhanging:

  • Used this past week: 4.75 yard
    • 2 yd for DD’s skirts
    • 1.25 yd for No Regerts pillow sample
    • 1.5 yd for No Regerts wallhanging
  • Total Used Year to Date: 214.5 yards
  • Added this week
    • Nothing!
  • YTD Used for Charity: 61 yards (28% of total used)

Sunday Stash - Mindless Stitching

My focus the next couple of weeks has been on some new quilt design without actually stitching them, so my actual stitching has been focused on wrapping up some charitable quilts.  As I sit typing, under my needle are two donation quilts that I am leader- and ender-ing to assemble as tops.  I’ve got another quilt under the quilting needle for donation, and fourth top ready to be sandwiched. And just to keep the trend going, I made two pillowcases to donate. Once all of these quilts are done, I’ll probably do one big blog post with pics of all of them.

It’s a lot of sewing, but a nice spell of mindless stitching after doing quilt math for several days! My particular problem today has been dealing with a headache and some related symptoms, and hoping it goes away overnight.

  • Used this past week: 6.75 yard
    • 2 yd for 2 pillowcases
    • 4.75 yd for Sparkling Pinwheels
  • Total Used Year to Date: 194.5 yards
  • Added this week
    • Nothing!
  • YTD Used for Charity: 45.75 yards (24% of total used)

Sunday Stash - Cat-atonic

It was the final week of summer break for my kids (I know, it feels early to us, too), but I managed to chip away at quilting the full-sized Meow or Never quilt I showed in last week’s Sunday Stash report.  Despite another busy weekend, I managed to get the binding on it tonight!

Next up I have to sandwich and quilt two more quilts to be donated for our guild’s Community Services efforts, and piece a third top.  It’s been laid out and is ready for piecing, so those should go fairly quickly since they aren’t behemoths like the one I just finished!

After all the donation quilts, I’m due to make another sample of Belinda, so hopefully I can get those all knocked out in the next couple of weeks!

  • Used this past week: 13 yard
    • 13 yd for Meow or Never quilt
  • Total Used Year to Date: 187.75 yards
  • Added this week
    • Nothing!
  • YTD Used for Charity: 39 yards (21% of total used)

Smunday Stash - Resource Rich

This week I got one small baby quilt finished, made as homage to the Settlers of Catan board game.

As per the board game, there are five terrains (fabrics) in the center arrangement of 19 hexagons that represent different resources: grain, brick, wood, sheep, and stone.  I mimicked those designs in the quilting texture in each fabric type. From top left to right, pebbling for desert, brick for brick, elongating feather for wheat, facets for stone, and fluffy sheep outlines for sheep (in the unicorn fabric - didn’t have good sheep fabric!).

I’ve got a couple other tops done recently, and some smaller projects to tackle this week, so stay tuned for more!

  • Used this past week: 3.75 yard
    • 3.75 yd for Nursery of Catan
  • Total Used Year to Date: 173.75 yards
  • Added this week
    • Nothing!
  • YTD Used for Charity: 25 yards (14% of total used)

Sunday Stash - Gross

As expected, a low key sewing week as I didn’t bring any hand projects with me on our family trip, although I’ve made progress in pattern design and some other quilting-related areas. Just as well since there’s a lot of helper cats at my parents house who might be too interested in them! Well, maybe only Angus (below) would actually helper as the other two stay hidden under the bed when anyone else is around.

I did finish one quilt before we left, though, so that makes it in the used column. That brings my total used for the year up to a gross!

  • Used this week:  9 yard
    • 9 yd for Emilio pattern sample
  • Total Used Year to Date: 144 yards
  • Added this week: 0 yard
    • Woohoo!
  • YTD Used for Charity: 21.75 yards (15% of total used)

Sunday Stash – Zooming Up

Although I switched from measuring and reporting on Net Used, I haven’t exactly been touting my Total Used yards either since I know I’ve been behind this year compared to previous years. Again, this is a reflection of a shift in what I’m sewing for, so it’s not catastrophic or anything dire, but it does make the spreadsheet look sad. For example:

My 2017 total used yardage has been below the minimum for every single year since 2012. You’ll notice, however, and giant spike at the end there - that reflects this week!  This week I finished a big quilt I’ve been working on for about a year, plus a smaller quilt that is a pattern sample for our July release at The Stitch TV Show.

  • Used this week:  27.5 yard
    • 22 yd for giant quilt
    • 1 yd for storage bag
    • 4.5 for Emilio pattern sample
  • Total Used Year to Date: 135 yards
  • Added this week: 0 yard
    • Woohoo!
  • YTD Used for Charity: 21.75 yards (16% of total used)
