Sunday Stash – Gross

As expected, a low key sewing week as I didn’t bring any hand projects with me on our family trip, although I’ve made progress in pattern design and some other quilting-related areas. Just as well since there’s a lot of helper cats at my parents house who might be too interested in them! Well, maybe only Angus (below) would actually helper as the other two stay hidden under the bed when anyone else is around.

I did finish one quilt before we left, though, so that makes it in the used column. That brings my total used for the year up to a gross!

  • Used this week:  9 yard
    • 9 yd for Emilio pattern sample
  • Total Used Year to Date: 144 yards
  • Added this week: 0 yard
    • Woohoo!
  • YTD Used for Charity: 21.75 yards (15% of total used)

Sunday Stash – Zooming Up

Although I switched from measuring and reporting on Net Used, I haven’t exactly been touting my Total Used yards either since I know I’ve been behind this year compared to previous years. Again, this is a reflection of a shift in what I’m sewing for, so it’s not catastrophic or anything dire, but it does make the spreadsheet look sad. For example:

My 2017 total used yardage has been below the minimum for every single year since 2012. You’ll notice, however, and giant spike at the end there – that reflects this week!  This week I finished a big quilt I’ve been working on for about a year, plus a smaller quilt that is a pattern sample for our July release at The Stitch TV Show.

  • Used this week:  27.5 yard
    • 22 yd for giant quilt
    • 1 yd for storage bag
    • 4.5 for Emilio pattern sample
  • Total Used Year to Date: 135 yards
  • Added this week: 0 yard
    • Woohoo!
  • YTD Used for Charity: 21.75 yards (16% of total used)

Sunday Stash – Zippo

Well, technically an unproductive week per the numbers, but I just put the final stitches on ALL the blocks for the big projects I’m working on right now. Whew.  It’ll be ready for assembly this week, although this week is bananas with baseball practice, art class, and my own tuffet class on Wednesday!

I did also finish the Saturday Sampler blocks for this month so I’m ready to finish the layout for the Summertime Blues quilt and get it assembled. The Great Grunge block below shows my mistake (whoops), which I did subsequently fix!

  • Used this week:  0 yards
    • Sad trombone!
  • Used Year to Date: 77.5 yards
  • Added this week: 0 yard
    • Huzzah!
  • Net Used YTD: 10.25 yards
  • YTD Used for Charity: 16 yards (21% of total used)

Sunday Stash – Onward

Two projects wrapped up this week as the wheels of progress continue to turn! I managed to wrap up two of the three pillow covers I’m working on (the other involves handpiecing), a donation quilt, and a totebag of sorts.

Here was my starting point for the bag fabric; I did sub in a lime green houndstooth, a black polka dot, and a darker teal for three of these to bring a better value range to the assortment.  I think it will make a good project bag to tote around, but is a bit too open to be a replacement purse.

  • Used this week:  9.25 yards
    • 5 yd for baseball donation quilt
    • 3.25 yd for the Maxwell Bag
    • 1 yd for two pillow covers
  • Used Year to Date: 72 yards
  • Added this week: 0 yard
    • Woohoo!
  • Net Used YTD: 14.75 yards
  • YTD Used for Charity: 16 yards (23% of total used)

Sunday Stash – It’s Getting Ugly

This was another slow usage week as I focused on getting well from the mega-cold I caught on vacation. I managed to eek out 2 small projects, both of which made use of the “ugly” snowman fabric that Lynn showed on episode 215 of The Stitch TV Show. They’ll both be going to good homes shortly!

  • Used this week:  2.75 yards
    • 1.25 yd for snowman tablerunner
    • 1.5 yd for the snowman tree skirt
  • Used Year to Date: 62.75 yards
  • Added this week: 0 yard
    • Woohoo!
  • Net Used YTD: 5.5 yards
  • YTD Used for Charity: 11 yards (18% of total used)

Sunday Stash – At Last

Greetings from the Land of Vampire Internet Access, where I only have home internet after 8pm. Whut.

We had some storms last week while I was traveling for work, so the best assessment from phone support is “there’s a loose wire”that only lets the internet work after everyone else in the neighborhood is done surfing for the day. Seriously, we’ve jiggled it and turned it off and on again multiple times, but we’re waiting on the tech to come out to the house tomorrow for a permanent fix.

Anywho, we had our live taping on Saturday this week, and I think it went great. We had a small but intense audience but several people wandered by the filming and recognition dawned over them, so we have that going for us! Lynn and I went through 7 quilt tops and give various suggestions for quilting them.

I also got the quilted project from Lynn for our 2nd magazine publication, which I’m shipping out Monday or Tuesday this week.  I just need to put finishing touches on the graphics and double check the instructions again and it’ll be ready to go! Picture from the hand binding to the right; I also had to hand stitch the sleeve and label.

So, with that, I have one finish to log, but the addition of other fabric. I got the pattern for the Amethyst project bag from Sew Sweetness so wanted to pick up some fabric for it.

  • Used this week:  7 yards
    • 7 yd for Islands in the Stream quilt
  • Used Year to Date: 51.25 yards
  • Added this week: 8 yard
    • 4 yd for pattern sample
    • 2 yd for Amethyst bag/stash
  • Net Used YTD: -6 yards
  • YTD Used for Charity: 11 yards (25% of total used)

Sunday Stash – Sparkling

It’s been a momentous week around here – my Sweet 16 arrived and is set up! No playtime on it yet since I needed to quilt and put the binding on the Sparkling Gems quilt to donate to Good Mews this week.

Since it ended up queen sized, I didn’t want to make it the first quilt on the Sweet 16, so Lynn graciously let me long arm it on Clementine (her longarm).

I also put the binding on the second version of the Lucky Star quilt, the pattern for which will be available for sale over in the shop for The Stitch in October.

And we also did a little live taping for The Stitch with a special guest live at the Chattahoochee Evening Stars quilt show. At that same show, my Hogwarts’ Required Reading quilt won 2nd place in its category! Woohoo!

  • Used this 2 weeks: 27.25 yards
    • 18 yd for Sparkling Gems
    • 9.25 yd for Lucky Star
  • Used Year to Date: 270.75 yards
  • Added this 2 weeks: 0 yard
    • Woohoo!
  • Net Used YTD: 159 yards
  • YTD Used for Charity: 101 yards (37% of total used)
