Sunday Stash - Feathery

This week I finished up the last 7 of my pre-kitted charity placemats, bringing my total placemats to 19. I’ve got some other leftover bits that could be put towards either placemats or blocks, but I think I might end up going the way of the donation block, which earns us 1 raffle ticket in the drawing (placemats earn us 2 or 3, I think).

I also finished one of our seekrit project quilts which I hope will be revealed in the next month. Since I attended the day meeting of the East Cobb Quilters’ Guild, I was also eligible for the door prizes there, and I happened to win a bundle of 4 FQs, so I did have a yard of intake this week.

On Saturday I had the pleasure of a class with Sue Nickels on feathers and fillers, who is delightful. Highly recommend taking a class with her; having a lot of experience in feathers and fillers already meant I was there mostly to refine (and learn more about marking) than to start from scratch, but still a great experience.  Here are two of my class samples, which are marked in blue pen on muslin.

This week I’m working on quilting a recent mystery quilt for donation so I can clean off my cutting table, and hopefully finishing up my small class project from Sue. After that I’ve got another two quilts in the line-up to baste and quilt! Delightfully, things are more settled with work since the conference is over and the project is launched. Whew.

Well, I wrote the Sunday Stash post in my head before I left for Vegas, but apparently never translated it into a blog post. Alas! I only finished 4 placemats last week, so not much to report anyway.

  • Added this Week: 0 yard

Sunday Stash - There’s No Place(mat) Like Home

This week was mostly raffle quilt kitting work, but I did finish 6 donation placemats.  I was also gifted some scraps so I included those in the spirit of honesty.

I’ve got a charity quilt basted and ready to quilt; I’m thinking I won’t have to work late as much this week given the progress I made last week on the work project, so I’m hopeful to get it quilted and bound before I head out of town for work next weekend.

  • Used this Week: 3 yard
    • 3 for 6 placemats
  • Used Year to Date: 53.75 yards
  • Added this Week: 1 yard
    • Scrap donation
  • Net Used YTD: 7.25 yards
  • YTD Used for Charity: 24.25 yards (42% of total used)

HtbaS - Episode 263

It’s the no backsies podcast! Context provided within the podcast.  This week I talk about 10 minutes up front on Cat Chat (Nina had surgery on Wednesday, but she’s fine), then some guild show and raffle quilt talk, and then finally the dirt on what I got at the Super Bolt sale last weekend.

Books reviewed in order of preference this week:

WIP Wednesday - Mise En Placemat

This week is a bit hectic for work so the weekday sewing has been minimal.  What time I have had has been focused on prepping for the raffle quilt for my guild, but I did sneak in a couple more placemats for donation.

You may recognize the bottom one as being eerily similar to the center for my Round Robin quilt.  I had another starter block similar to that one, and I used one of Sally’s leftover birds on it, too.  You may be seeing more of those fun birds pop up in other projects, too!

Sunday Stash - The #SBSI Reckoning

Well, the reckoning has been reckoned, and at final #SBSI tally I’m actually not in the red for usage for the year!  Although I did do some damage in intake at the Super Bolt Sale, my finishes for this week kept me in the green.  I finished the two commission quilts, and another 5 pillowcases and 3 placemats for donation.

I also did my Saturday Sampler blocks, although I really borked up one with some miscuts. Oh well - I won’t be able to tell in the final quilt so it’ll be okay.

    • 4.25 yd for E’s quilt
    • 5.5 yd for C’s quilt

WIP Wednesday - Crafting for Good

I’m trying to balance my desire to finish things with my desire to not end up a hunched over crone from doing too much FMQ in one period of time. So far the non-crone thing is winning!  I did finish one of the commission quilts, and the other is basted and ready to quilt, so to give myself a break in the mean time, I’ve been working on a couple charity quilts.

Here’s the latest, which started with a leftover Lorax panel piece.

My plan is to add at least 2 more rounds on the top and left sides so the Lorax is positioned in the bottom right for a little more interest.  I might end up using 3 1/2″ squares instead of the 5″ ones in there currently to mix it up further. Our target market is kids 5-12, with quilts around 45 x 60″, which is a nice, doable size to work up quickly out of scraps.
