The Stitch – Episode 110 Audio Only

This month, Pam and Lynn talk about how to cheat at quilting, taking online classes, and class etiquette.

This is the audio-only version of the video on YouTube. See show notes, photos, and more available on The Stitch TV Show page!

NOTE: This audio-only version of The Stitch is replacing my usual weekly HtbaS podcast; I’ll be back solo next week for the usual geeky fare!

WIP Wednesday - Spirit Animals

We have one more day of school left after today. SO CLOSE. It’s also National Wine Day today, so it’s quite appropriate that Jett & Morelli are my spirit animals for today’s WIP Wednesday:

I have to show cat pictures because a good bit of what I’ve been sewing this week I can’t show yet, so they are being convenient “black bars” over the censored parts.

Let this also answer the question of “how do you keep your cats off your sewing table?”.  This picture plus some awkward shrugging and mumbling should answer that. Truth be told, if it’s going for a show or to a non-cat person, it stays in a plastic container that they can’t get to.

So, having typed that, I’m off for National Wine Day!

Sunday Stash - Backwards, Yet Not in Heels

Were it not for the two-day migraine this weekend, I would have been a lot more productive.  Well, migraine and about a billion errands to run before vacation and a lot rudderless time turning in circles around the house worrying about things I can’t control, like middle school and the weather.

It’s going GREAT! #MayMadness. Jett is truly my spirit animal; laying down yet not resting as I give everything around me the stinkeye.

As it were, I did finish a sample tabletopper and a totebag this week, so not too bad.  I have another tabletopper prepped to quilt, and two placemats, too, which will be my “busy time” this week in between freaking out about more things I can’t control.  I also signed up for a class in June, and needed/wanted to buy some fabric for that as well, hence the intake.

  • Used this Week: 4 yard
    • 3 yd for tabletopper
    • 1 yd for totebag interior/handles
  • Used Year to Date: 157.25 yards
  • Added this Week: 6 yard
    • 6 yd various fabrics
  • Net Used YTD: 66.75 yards
  • YTD Used for Charity: 57.75 yards (37% of total used)

HtbaS - Episode 274

This week, I talk about working on small projects to clear off my cutting table, the continuation of #MayMadness as we hurtle towards the end of the school year and summer vacation, and attaching the finale row in my EPP project (while stabbing the bejeebus out of my finger).

Here is an in-progress picture of my second Carry All Caddy (before binding applied). FWIW, It was ultimately easier to handstitch that down rather than machine bind everything as I did on the first one.

WIP Wednesday - It’s Cats All The Way Down

This week, I’ve been working on some smaller projects to clean off the cutting table after I came clean last week. So far I’ve managed to finish projects associated with the home dec scraps, cut to size the leftover units and orphan blocks to sew up as leaders and enders, and start work on the two tablerunners.

I also settled on pattern for my Cat Lady fabric from Cotton & Steel, which will be for the Good Mews auction this year.

I’m going to do a mash-up of a Diane Knott pattern and the free pattern from the fabric designer Sarah Watts. Of course it requires 320 half-square triangles, so there’s that.

Smunday Stash - Yeah, Yeah, I’ll Get To It

Oh, Sunday Stash. I love your spreadsheet but hate your obligations sometimes.  I’m blaming the month of May. Here’s where I’m at after finishing two projects last week. Pics of both finishes coming shortly!

    • 3.25 yd for a second Carry All Caddy
    • 3.25 for the #SummerReadingQAL bookshelf quilt!
  • Used Year to Date: 153.25 yards
  • Added this Week: 0 yard
    • Woohoo!
  • Net Used YTD: 62.25 yards

HtbaS - Episode 273

This week, Pam spends about 10-12 minutes up front talking about why she gets anxious every May. She’s now reached the point of writing about herself in 3rd person to distance herself from the craziness.

Also, updates on the #SummerReadingQAL, the state of the cutting table, and other fun topics.

Today’s podcat is Jett!

WIP Wednesday: State of the Cutting Table

You guys, I feel like I’m an organized person, and yet here is the current state of my cutting table, filled with current projects.

Lest you think I suffer fully from The Smug with UFOs based on the last episode of The Stitch, here’s what i have from top right (all of which are WIPs, not UFOs!):

  • Scraps from Sparkling Gems (the orange & blue fabric and the purple box)
  • Random leftover units (teal HSTs parts)
  • Upholstery fabric scraps to turn into a bag
  • A surprise quilt for a friend (in the big purple bin with the white paper on top)
  • Parts for a second Carry All Caddy to donate to ECQG for the auction next year.
  • The Cat Lady fabric for a quilt for Good Mews (the pile falling over)
  • 2 charm packs and coordinating fabrics for a tabletopper pattern

In the second row are various bins with other projects in the works, including some pants to shorten for my kids. Time to get sewing!

Sunday Stash - Full of Heart

This week, I finished up my #SummerReadingQAL top, and have been writing up the prep posts for the launch.  The preview post goes up Tuesday, with the official kick off on May 24 over on the TheStitchTvShow.com.

I also finished up another donation quilt, the “Big Hearted” quilt, and have to get cranking on the Saturday Sampler blocks I picked up yesterday and put together the top for Sparkling Gems.  Very busy!

  • Used this Week: 4.25 yard
    • 4.25 yd for Big Hearted donation quilt
  • Used Year to Date: 146.75 yards
  • Added this Week: 0 yard
    • Woohoo!
  • Net Used YTD: 62.25 yards

Starstruck Wallhanging - Finished!

Whenever my husband asks what I’d like for whatever upcoming holiday or celebration, I’ve stuck pretty closely to the same answer the past few years: “Clean bathrooms.” Alas, my mom does not have a standard wish I can so easily fulfill, so she’s getting an early Christmas present for Mother’s Day this year.

She saw this little quilted mat I made for the neighborhood swap and asked for something similar to hang up in their house, so when she didn’t have a ready answer for Mother’s Day gift giving, I decided to whip this up for her.

Starstruck

You can see a bit more of the detail of the quilting on the tree-top star in this picture:

StarstruckI really like the mixture of the textures here, and will really only do quilting this dense on a wallhanging because it does make it rather stiff!
